Who is the Green Lady?
Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, also known as Elizabeth Sweetheart or the "Green Lady of Brooklyn," is a fine artist and fabric designer celebrated for her head-to-toe love of the color green, which extends to her wardrobe and home decor. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1941, she was influenced early on by her grandparents—learning to paint and sew from her grandmother—and studied fine arts under Alex Colville at Mount Allison University. In 1964, she hitchhiked to New York City, landing a job in the Garment Center and eventually launching her own company, SweetPea Design Studio. Her hand-painted prints have been used by major designers like Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren, and she continues to create intricate watercolor pieces. Married to fellow artist Robert Rosenthal, with whom she has a son, Sam Eaton, she has made Brooklyn—and green—her signature.
